Hello there! Welcome back to my space. If this is your first time here, endeavor to check out my previous post (here).
The post title sounds somewhat funny, but it holds a lot to life. Growing up, my answer to the popular question of ‘’coke or fanta?’’ Had always been Fanta. Not that coke didn’t taste good then, nor that it didn’t have a good look either. It was fanta for me because coke has a dark color and fanta orange. It was enough to already hear people call me names like ‘’Blacky’’, So, I thought, why should I take a darkness painted drink again? Automatically I developed this hate relationship for coke or any drink with similar color. In fact, I lived most of my life telling people who offered me drinks that I was allergic to Coca-Cola. But somehow I could never come up with what it does to me. (funnily, this same story goes for Amala).
Recently, it’s been Coca-Cola all the way, how, why, and when I decided to finally try it, I don’t remember, but I figured it wasn’t as bad as I preached and it has even had a more soothing taste than Fanta. I sat and deeply thought about my reasons for actually despising it in the first place and nothing came up except for the fact that it is cola colored, and I wasn’t ready to accept being black.
You might think this dumb, but many times have we made little things like this be the judge over major aspects of our lives. We are quick to judge a book by its cover without really allowing it a chance to prove itself. For some, it’s in choosing a partner, others a career or generally an important aspect in life. We fail to see the good in things just because we mentally judge it even before we get close at all. In other not to miss great opportunities because of mental judgement, I’ll say we critically observe an issue/item before making a conclusion about it. Sometimes, our judgments might be right, but there is no harm in proper scrutiny.
Have a lovely / productive week ahead! And be happy in your skin – light or dark.
